WORLDS APART Documentary Now Filming: The Untold Story of the '90s Boy Band Phenomenon

Simon Cowell’s first-ever boy band gets the Biopic Treatment.

A feature-film documentary chronicling the rise, fame, and legacy of the 1990s boy band Worlds Apart has officially entered production. Directed and produced by award-winning filmmaker David Serero. The film promises unprecedented access, never-before-seen archival material, and deeply emotional interviews, offering the definitive inside story of one of Europe’s most beloved pop phenomena.

Formed in the early 1990s by music mogul Simon Cowell (known for America’s Got Talent, The X Factor, One Direction, and Il Divo), Worlds Apart became a worldwide chart-topping sensation, especially in France and Germany, where their fan base reached near-mythical levels. Their concerts sold-out arenas everywhere and sparked pop hysteria across the continent. 

The official feature documentary on Worlds Apart, the iconic 1990s boy band that captivated millions across Europe and beyond, will offer fans the definitive inside story of one of the most beloved pop phenomena of the ‘90s.

With their clean-cut image, synchronized choreography, and hits like “Baby Come Back,” “Everlasting Love,” “Je Te Donne,” and “Quand Je Rêve de Toi,” the group became one of the U.K.’s most commercially successful pop exports of the decade. Worlds Apart became an emblem of the boy band era.   

Filming began in April 2025 across Los Angeles, the United Kingdom, and France. The documentary features interviews with band members Steve Hart, Cal Cooper, and Nathan Moore (who first rose to fame with the UK boy band Brother Beyond during the 80s), as well as commentary from music executives, celebrities, artists, superfans, and cultural historians providing vital context about the group’s influence and examining why their music continues to resonate with audiences today.

The group sold millions of records, with their music crossing borders into previously untapped markets, as they became the first boy band to perform in five different languages.

The film aims to examine the highs and lows of global fame through the lens of a band that shaped the soundtrack of a generation. The band is still touring more than ever, at the request of their loyal fans and due to the nostalgia of that era. 

At the height of their success, the Worlds Apart phenomenon swept across Europe, with a fan frenzy comparable to Beatlemania. Few British acts have ever stirred such passion on French soil, and the intensity of their popularity must be seen to be believed. Even the Backstreet Boys and NSYNC would open for them in Europe. 

The film aims to explore the highs and lows of sudden stardom, the bond between the members, and the emotional toll of idolization. It traces the group’s meteoric rise and enduring legacy in pop culture. The release coincides with the band's 30th Anniversary of their first release in France.

Worlds Apart: The Film is slated for worldwide theatrical release in 2027.
