DAVID SERERO

BIOGRAPHY (Highlights)

David Serero is a critically acclaimed and award-winning opera singer, actor, stage and film director, and producer. He has performed more than 2,500 performances in more than 45 countries, directed and produced nearly 100 theatrical productions, starred in over 100 films and TV series, recorded and produced over 100 albums, and played more than 50 lead and title roles (in several languages) from the opera, theatre, and musical repertoire. In New York, he starred Off-Broadway in iconic roles such as Shylock, Cyrano, Othello, Barabas, Yiddish King Lear, Don Giovanni, Figaro, Romeo, Nabucco, as well as new works such as Napoleon by Stanley Kubrick, Queen Esther, Moses (The Ten Commandments), Otto Frank (Anne Frank a Musical), among others. In his native Paris, he starred as Don Quixote (Man of La Mancha), Happy Mac (Beggar's Holiday by Duke Ellington), and You Are Not Alone, a musical starring Jermaine Jackson. He was inducted into the prestigious Who's Who in America for demonstrating outstanding achievements in the entertainment world and for his contributions to contemporary society.  In 2019, he received the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award, the Morocco Day Distinguished Achievement Award, and the Trophy of Moroccan Culture. Morocco's airline, Royal Air Maroc, named him among the fifteen most influential Moroccans worldwide. David is a member of the Recording Academy and the Television Academy, and a voting member of both the Grammy Awards and the Emmys. In 2020, David Serero received the UNESCO Award for Diversity in Paris and became an Honorary Member of the United Nations of Arts and Science. In 2021, he won 4 BroadwayWorld Awards for Best Performer of the Decade, Best Producer of a Musical, Best Producer of a Play of the Decade, and Best Opera Singer of the Year. He was awarded the Certificate of Recognition by Mayor Bill de Blasio of New York for his contributions to the City's dynamic cultural landscape, enriching the vibrant performing arts sector and uplifting and inspiring diverse New Yorkers. He is the founder of several festivals worldwide and the author of several plays, musicals, and books. He has his record label and has produced dozens of albums, ranging from jazz to Broadway artists and pop stars. In 2021, his first documentary film on fashion designer Elie Tahari received nearly 100 film festival selections. He won dozens of awards, including Best Director, Best Documentary, Best Fashion Documentary, and Best Producer, and the film received its premiere at the Lincoln Center Film Society. He has since directed and produced the following feature films: “Between the Notes,” about pianist Hélène Grimaud in partnership with Deutsche Grammophon; “The Film-Make-Her,” about filmmaker Lisa Azuelos; and “The Art Documentary,” about sculptor Richard Orlinski. Recently, his world premiere new play, “The Trial of Eichmann,” opened off-Broadway and received critical acclaim. He has given concerts in Paris at the PARIS OPERA GARNIER, OLYMPIA, EIFFEL TOWER; in New York at the LINCOLN CENTER, CARNEGIE HALL, TIMES SQUARE; in London at the ROYAL COLLEGE OF MUSIC, WEMBLEY STADIUM; and in Moscow at the TCHAIKOVSKY HALL; in Amsterdam at the CONCERTGEBOUW, the BUDAPEST OPERA conducted by Plácido DOMINGO and more. He made his sold-out WEST END debut at the Dominion Theatre. He has sung over 30 lead roles in Opera, Operetta, and Musical Theater. In 2012, David Serero performed Don Quixote from MAN OF LA MANCHA in Paris and the title role from the revival of Duke Ellington's only musical: BEGGAR'S HOLIDAY, and also starred in the cast album recording. In 2013, David performed with JERMAINE JACKSON in YOU ARE NOT ALONE, a musical written, directed, and produced by David Serero. He has also made and arranged I WISH YOU LOVE, an album of Jazz standards for Jermaine Jackson. In December 2013, David shared the cover of Theatre & Performances with Barbra Streisand in London and made his BROADWAY solo debut at the Snapple Theatre in New York. In 2015 and 2016, he played Off-Broadway the lead roles of SHYLOCK (MERCHANT OF VENICE) and OTHELLO's title role with both critical acclaims. In 2015, he performed two open-air concerts on TIMES SQUARE (New York) for BEST OF FRANCE in the presence of the French President, Mr. Francois Hollande. He also played NABUCCO (Nabucco) in New York and the title roles of DON GIOVANNI and RIGOLETTO at CARNEGIE HALL. He has recorded a Cast Album of iconic roles, such as Shakespeare's Richard III, and World Premiere adaptations, in his extensive discography. David is also the founder, artistic director, and producer of several festivals, including the Paris Musical Film Festival, London Musical Film Festival, Opera and Broadway Festival of Deauville with Casino Barrière, American Sephardi Music Festival, and New York Sephardic Jewish Film Festival (Producer).

 

During the 2017/2018 season in New York, David Serero starred as CYRANO DE BERGERAC (Rostand), DON GIOVANNI (Mozart), BARABAS (Marlowe's Jew of Malta), KING AHASUERUS (from the musical Queen Esther's Dilemma), KING LEAR (Jacob Gordin's The YIDDISH KING LEAR), NAPOLEON's title role from NAPOLEON by Stanley Kubrick.

For the 2018/19 season in New York, David stars as NABUCCO's title role, ROMEO (in a Jewish adaptation of Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet), and FIGARO (in Mozart's Marriage of Figaro).

For the 2019/20 season in New York, David starred as Otto Frank in "Anne Frank, a Musical" (world premiere of the new musical "Lost in the Disco," directed by film director Lisa Azuelos). 

In 2022, he directed The United States of Elie Tahari, which premiered at Lincoln Center in New York, and adapted The Ten Commandments into English for the Off-Broadway stage, in which he starred as Moses. The production earned him four BroadwayWorld Award nominations. He also founded the Royal Opera of Morocco, with its inaugural gala held in Casablanca. At the end of the year, he announced the release of The Film-Make-Her, a documentary about Lisa Azuelos.

 

In 2023, The Film-Make-Her won two international awards in Los Angeles. His documentary about Elie Tahari was screened at the Miami Film Festival (April), had its French premiere on the Champs-Élysées (July), and was showcased during the Cultured Focus Magazine Awards in New York (October), where he received the Excellence in the Arts Award. He also revived "Anne Frank, The Musical" Off-Broadway and appeared in Robin Campillo’s film "L'Île Rouge." That year, he was also appointed as a jury member for the London Fashion Film Festival and was honored by the City of New York.

 

In 2024, he unveiled Rocancourt, Le Film: it premiered in Marseille (May), was screened at the Marché du Film during the Cannes Film Festival (May 19) where it received a standing ovation, and had its U.S. premiere in Los Angeles (August). He received the Best International Feature Documentary award at the Garden State Film Festival. He also wrote and directed two Off-Broadway plays: The Trial of Adolf Eichmann (July) and The One (I, Muhammad Ali)(December), the latter attended by Muhammad Ali’s daughters. He received three additional BroadwayWorld Award nominations that year.

 

In 2025, he presented "Welcome to My Roots" (about Jeff Hamilton) during Paris Fashion Week in January. In March, Rocancourt, Le Film continued its award-winning journey by receiving the Best International Feature Documentary award at the Hollywood Storytellers Film Festival and was officially selected for the Beverly Hills Film Festival. In May, he returned to the Cannes Film Festival with two new documentaries: La Vis Comica (a portrait of Christian Clavier) and Richard Orlinski: The Art Documentary, both screened at the Palais des Festivals.

BIOGRAPHY:

Born in Paris in 1981, David Serero started his career in musicals and theater in New-York (where he lived for 3 years). Then, in 2002, David Serero discovered Opera. In 2004, he moved to St Petersburg (Russia) to study at the Rimsky-Korsakov Conservatory in the Opera and Dramatic Theater department. That same year, he made his operatic debut singing Scarpia (Tosca) and Germont (La Traviata). From his acclaimed debut, David received an invitation to be part of the prestigious Young Soloists Academy of the Mariinsky Theater in St Petersburg, Russia, founded by Valery Gergiev and directed by Larissa Gergieva. He became the first "non-Russian" to be part of the Academy. He has toured in France, Germany, Italy, Spain, Belgium, Russia, the USA, and Israel. In 2006, David Serero made his European debut singing Escamillo (Carmen), his signature role, at the Brasov Opera in Romania, staged by Cristian Mihaielescu. David Serero received the high distinction of "Ambassador of the city of Brasov" from the Romanian government for his debut performance. In 2007, he returned to sing the Four Villains (Tales of Hoffmann) parts in that same company. That same year, David made his U.S. debut singing Alfio (Cavalleria Rusticana) and Tonio (I Pagliacci) in Harrisburg, PA. He received critical acclaim for his acting qualities. At 26 years old, David Serero is the youngest French opera singer to make his U.S debut. (Source A.F.P). In 2008, David Serero performed the part of Escamillo (Carmen) at the Livermore Valley Opera (San Francisco, CA), staged by director James Marvel. Invited by the conductor Richard Beswick (ex-Artistic Director and Producer of the legendary label Decca in London for 20 years), he made his French debut with Doctor Malatesta (Don Pasquale) with the Centre Philharmonic in 2008. Thanks to the Encouragement Prize that he received from the Bizet Foundation, David Serero performed the part of Zurga (The Pearl Fishers) in Romania. In 2009, David Serero performed the roles of Enrico (Lucia di Lammermoor) and Escamillo (Carmen) in Florida, USA. Mr. Serero has performed the parts of General Boum (La Grande Duchesse de Gerolstein / Offenbach) and the Vice-Roi (La Perichole / Offenbach) for 70 performances. David Serero participated in Hungary's Opéralia competition (founded and directed by legendary tenor Plácido Domingo) in 2009. During this competition, David Serero was featured in a documentary about Plácido Domingo, broadcast on Hungarian national television. David Serero was chosen to perform the part of Zapata (Le Chanteur de Mexico) for the 50th celebration of the operetta in Nice in 2010. Mr. Serero performed a concert for the 80th Anniversary of Anne Frank in Paris, sponsored by the Embassies of the Netherlands and Germany. Concert in support of the French-Israeli hostage Gilad Shalit. Gala concert in benefit of the UNICEF in the city hall of Paris with Mr. Jean Tiberi (former Mayor of Paris). The opening concert of the Festival of Jewish Cultures at the Grand Palais Éphémère in Paris was sponsored by the Embassy of the United States in France. Opera Gala in Florida broadcast to millions of viewers. Dinner Gala at the UNESCO in Paris. Dinner Gala for ministers of the French Government. He sang the French National Anthem at the venue in France for the Prime Minister of Israel, Mr. Benjamin Netanyahu. Open-air Concert for Summer Festival in Paris. Tribute concert for the 50th death anniversary at the Czech Centre in Paris. Concerts for children in Hospitals. David Serero has given more than 30 other concerts in prestigious venues, including the Théâtre du Gymnase, L'Alhambra, Salons France-Amerique, Salle Cortot, and Théâtre Adyar. Concert for the 100th anniversary of International Women's Day in Paris. 2 concerts for "Les Envolées Lyriques" (1st festival dedicated to Opera in Paris). Concert for the year France-Russia 2010 in Paris in the historical location of the Russian Conservatory, Sergei Rachmaninov. Concert in Montpellier. Broadway concert in Chantilly. Invited by the Russian star Zarina Maliti, David Serero performed three sold-out concerts alongside her in Moscow and Vladikavkaz. This last one was broadcast by Russian TV for an average of 15 million viewers. David Serero hosted his annual Gala in benefit of UNICEF at the Théâtre le Ranelagh in Paris. 2011

During 2010 and 2011, he performed at the OPERA DU RANELAGH in Paris, for which he was the Artistic Director and founder. He performed a concert with pianist CYPRIEN KATSARIS. He later toured with pianist Gerard Ghanassia in Nouméa (New Caledonia) and Saint-Denis (Ile de la Réunion). He performed with Cyprien Katsaris in Thessaloniki (Greece) at the Museum of Archaeology.

In June, he performs a concert at the TCHAIKOVSKY HALL in Moscow along with the Bolshoi Ballet and Russian stars Iossef Kobzon, Felix Tsarikati, and Zarina Maliti.

In July 2011, David Serero performed the Premiere of the first Opera in Hebrew, THE DYBBUK, by composer Ofer Ben-Amots in Israel at the Kfar Blum festival. This performance was broadcast LIVE on all the radios in Israel.

In August 2011, he created the OPERA & BROADWAY FESTIVAL at the BARRIERE CASINO in Deauville.

In September 2011, he performed a sold-out concert at the Synagogue of Nazareth in Paris for the European Day of Jewish Culture. This concert was recorded and broadcast on television and radio.

David has given a concert to celebrate the 150th anniversary of Deauville (Normandy) at the Casino Lucien Barrière Theater in Deauville. For the 100th anniversary of the French Institute of London, David Serero gave a concert in London. Show for the European Medical Day in Paris. Concert at the Theatre des Varietes in Paris. Russian Tour with famous singers Zarina Maliti and Felix Tsarikati in Moscow, St Petersburg, and Vladikavkaz. Opening season at the Opera du Ranelagh (for which David Serero is the Artistic Director). World Concert Tour with the world-renowned Master pianist Cyprien Katsaris at the Opéra du Ranelagh. Concerts in Israel at the Felicja Blumental Music Center in Tel Aviv. Show at the Hadassah Hospital in Jerusalem for Israeli and Palestinian children. Pre-Opening concert of the Cannes Film Festival in Cannes (April 20th, 2011). Concert Salle Molière of Lyon (May 16th, 2011). Show in Paris and Nice for the benefit of the Hospitals Hadassah. David Serero performed a concert alongside two of Russia's most famous singers: Joseph Kobzon and Zarina Maliti, at the Tchaikovsky Hall in Moscow. 

2012

David performed the part of Valiente from ANDALOUSIE in Lyon with the CALA company.
 

David Serero performed his signature role: Don Quixote from Man of La Mancha in Paris at the Théâtre des Variétés (March 2012). He has also performed it in Deauville (August 2012).

He is an investor in the Musical "Leap of Faith" on Broadway.

 

In June 2012, David founded the 1st Paris Film Festival of Musical Film.

On July 14th, 2012 (Bastille Day), David Serero performed the French and Israeli national anthems for the President of Israel, Mr. Shimon Peres.

 

In August 2012, David performed his Deauville Opera & Broadway festival for its 3rd consecutive year.

In September 2012, David Serero was the Artistic Director, Arranger, and Producer of "I WISH YOU LOVE", the new album of Jermaine JACKSON (Jackson Five member) of Jazz Standards. On this album, David Serero and Jermaine Jackson performed in a duet on Autumn Leaves (French classic "Les Feuilles Mortes" originally performed by Yves Montand). The video clip of this song was directed and produced by David Serero. He chose to shoot it in black & white.

 

In October 2012, David debuted on the WEST END, performing a SOLD-OUT concert at the Dominion Theater in London. During his stay, he also completed a show in benefit of the Meir Panim UK charity in London.

 

In November 2012, David performed the title role of BEGGAR'S HOLIDAY, the only Duke Ellington musical, at the Espace Pierre Cardin in Paris during six sold-out shows. This musical has not been performed since 1946.

 

David has directed, arranged, and produced the Cast Album Recording, in which he also performs the lead part of Happy Mac.

2013

In January 2013, David Serero performed with Jermaine JACKSON  "YOU ARE NOT ALONE", a new musical written, directed, and produced by David. This musical was performed in Paris and toured France in January 2013.

 

In February 2013, David toured Israel with concerts benefiting the WIZO in Netanya, the Jerusalem Music Center in Jerusalem, etc. In March 2013, David recorded his debut solo album "ALL I CARE ABOUT IS LOVE".

He becomes a member of the SCPP, the syndicate of Producers of France.

 

On May 22nd, 2013, David had the honor of performing the French national anthem (La Marseillaise) for French president Nicolas SARKOZY during his visit to Netanya, Israel.

 

In June 2013, he created the LONDON MUSICAL FILM FESTIVAL and performed at Bush Hall, the Royal College of Music, and Wembley Stadium.

 

In November 2013, David performed in St Petersburg, Russia, with Katerina Kovanji.

In December 2013, David shared the cover of the prestigious magazine Theatre & Performance featuring Barbra Streisand in London. He made his solo BROADWAY debut at the Bernstein Theater with his One Man Musical Show.

Sold out West End debut at the Dominion Theater in London. Gala Concert for the benefit of Meir Panim in London. Concert at the Allegro in Lyon. Concert in Netanya and Jerusalem at the Jerusalem Music Center, benefiting the Wizo. Concert for the liberation of Gilad Shalit with the presence of Gilad Shalit in Paris' City Hall. Concert at the Royal College of Music during the Festival of Russian songs. David performed for French President Nicolas Sarkozy during his visit to Israel on May 22, 2013.

2014

In March 2014, he released his new album THE BROADWAY BARITONE with selections from Phantom of the Opera, Les Misérables, Fiddler on the Roof, Man of La Mancha, My Fair Lady, Beauty and the Beast, Camelot, South Pacific, etc. 

 

In April/May 2014, he performed his UK tour in London at the Leicester Square Theatre, Birmingham at the Glee Club, Liverpool at the Epstein Theatre, and Manchester at the Royal Northern College of Music, as well as in Leeds.

 

David was a jury member of the Competition of Russian Music in London at the Royal College of Music.

 

He recorded the anthem for the 2014 World Soccer Cup in Brazil.

 

From May to October 2014, David performed his One-Man Musical Show at the Théâtre du Gymnase in Paris, delivering over 100 performances.

 

In the summer of 2014, he recorded the entire Love Letters correspondence between Napoleon and Josephine.

 

He has also released his new studio album, THE CROONER BARITONE, The Frank Sinatra Classics.

 

In France, he starred in the films EVA + LEON by Emilie Cherpitel and NOUS TROIS OU RIEN by Kheiron.

 

In New York, he starred in AMARENA by Andrew Abballe, SUPER PARADISE by Nour Matimusha, CAPICOLA by Mark Aiello, LAUNDRY DAY by Jake Peterson, RANSOM by Brendan Duffy, THERE WILL COME SOFT RAINS by Danielle Boyd, RING RING and THE KINGDOM OF THE ALLEY by Stephen Skeel, NEW YORK 180 by Hongkai Sun.

 

Since October, he has performed the lead role of CHEF BRUNO from the Musical TRUFFLES in New York.

He was a finalist in the Duke Ellington Jazz Vocal Competition in New York.

From October to December, he performed his One-Man Musical Show on Broadway at the Snapple Theater. One of these performances was broadcast live on Applause Network TV.

In December, he performed his show "XMAS FOR JEWS" at Carnegie Hall in New York.

He also performed the lead part of NAPOLEON in the STANLEY KUBRICK workshop at New York University.

 

On December 31st, he performed "New York, New York" with ARTHUR on TF1.

2015

In January, he starred as Alfred the tailor in the Chinese film NEW YORK VERTIGO, directed by Hongkai Sun, filmed in New York. He also starred in PAISANOS IN PARIS as Francois, directed by Ernie Zahn.

 

He performed the parts of Christopher Sly & Vincentio from THE TAMING OF THE SHREW (Shakespeare) at the NEW YORK PUBLIC LIBRARY.

In April, he was the lead in the commercials for SOTHEBY'S and EBAY, which were filmed in New York.

 

In New York, during March and April, he starred in the films WINTER HAS NO SUN (as Armand) by Rodrigo Ayres, CRIME SCENE: DO NOT CROSS (as Detective Jack) by Katie Huang, MOST BEAUTIFUL ISLAND (as Saleem) by Ana Paisanos, NEAR IT ALL (as Frank) by Woody Lewis and SPEEDY (as Ali) by Ameer Kazmi.

 

In May, he played King Edward from Shakespeare's Richard III with the Oxford Shakespeare Company, directed by Ron Destro. He also played the lead role of Marcel Proust in "Proust & Joyce" at the Hotel Majestic in New York.

 

He also played Mr. Matchum in Gangs of New York—BLOOD FEUDS for DISCOVERY CHANNEL, directed by Andrea de Brito.

 

In June, he performed at the annual Gala of the NATIONAL ARTS CLUB of New York and is the Guest Artist at the NEW YORK JEWISH MUSIC FESTIVAL at the SYMPHONY SPACE.

 

He starred in the films SORRY CHARLIE as Adileh's father by Lawrence Sharp, HOOLIGANS as the Deli owner by Patrick Lizza, FOLLOWING PHIL as Mr. Lavani by Samuel Omole, THE REDEMPTION as the father by Steve Carmona, TANGO SHALOM as the cantor by Gabriel Bologna, SMITH & WATSON by Alex Cress, OVERLOAD ROCK OR DIE as Sal LaSalle by Mark Aiello, AGAIN by Mexican director Omar Salgado.

 

In June, he starred as SHYLOCK from THE MERCHANT OF VENICE in New York with critical acclaim.

He stars in the TV Series WHISTLEBLOWERS on SPIKE TV (Agent ISI) and SUDDENLY RICH on TLC (Real estate agent).

 

In September, he performed two open-air concerts on TIMES SQUARE (New York) for BEST OF FRANCE in the presence of the French president, Mr. Francois Hollande.

 

He also performed at the NEW YORK FASHION WEEK and a tribute concert to DANIEL PEARL.

 

He releases the album RICHARD III, by William Shakespeare, which he adapted into the French language.

 

He releases the album SEPHARDI (SEPHARADE) with Sephardic Music in the Ladino language and a duet with beatboxer MYTHE BOX on a 100% Vocal version of HABANERA (from the Opera Carmen)

 

He announces his new TV Series, NAPOLEON IN NEW YORK, created by himself, where he plays the part of Napoleon.

2016

In 2016, David released ALL MY LOVE IS FOR YOU, a pop-rock album that he composed, performed, arranged, and produced entirely.

In January, he plays the lead role of SHYLOCK (Merchant of Venice) in New York with critical acclaim. The JEWISH WEEK will later write "Among notable Shylock performances in history are Jacob Adler, Al Pacino, Dustin Hoffman, Laurence Olivier, Zero Mostel, and David Serero."

He starred in the following TV Series: DEADLINE CRIME WITH TAMRON HALL, produced by NBC-UNIVERSAL (Agent undercover), ON THE CASE WITH PAULA ZAHN (Detective), CHECKED OUT (as Larry Loggenhoffer), RED OAKS by AMAZON (French waiter), SIX DEGREES OF MURDER by the Discovery Channel (Detective).

He starred as the lead in the following commercials for DON JULIO TEQUILA as the Mexican cartel boss, VOLKSWAGEN as the father, BJ's as the father, and COLD BREW COFFEE as the father.

 

In the TV Series MYSTERIES AT THE MUSEUM, he starred in 4 episodes as Fritz Madal, JW Jones, and Alexander Bjakov for TRAVEL CHANNEL.

 

In April, he sings the title role of NABUCCO by Verdi in New York. He also stars in Yulia Formenko's JIHADI STREET and as Boris in Ari Ben Avram's SHEEPSHEAD.

 

In May, he sings both title roles of DON GIOVANNI and RIGOLETTO (Highlights versions) at CARNEGIE HALL.

 

He released the first music video, "YOU ARE FOR ME" (filmed in Miami), from the album "ALL MY LOVE IS FOR YOU."

 

In June, he plays Othello's title role by Shakespeare in an Off-Broadway production in New York.

This summer, he played the Script Vendor in Danny Smight's feature OBSIDIANA. He also played the Interrogator in "T5" (also known as TERMINAL 5), a music video by Swet Shop Boys.

In September, he performs for the PRESIDENT OF PORTUGAL, Mr. Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa, in tribute to Sousa Mendes. He stars as Mr. Morse in the short film BROWN TROUT by Jack Gordon.

 

In October, he plays the lead role of Jason in THE HUNT WITH JOHN WALSH on CNN.

2017

In 2017, David Serero was honored in the prestigious Who's Who in America for "having demonstrated outstanding achievements in the entertainment world and for having contributed significantly to the betterment of contemporary society." 

David performs an opera gala in benefit to SURGEONS OF HOPE at the National Opera Center of America. He produces the 20th Anniversary Edition of the New York Sephardic Jewish Film Festival. He is a finalist in the Culture & Arts Award for French Entrepreneurs from Abroad, sponsored by Air France. He opens the U.S debut performance of French duo Les Chevaliers du Fiel and is featured in their documentary.

He produces the 20th Anniversary Edition of the New York Sephardic Jewish Film Festival. He performs at the Center for Jewish History for the Lifetime Achievement Award ceremony for Mr. Andre Azoulay, Counsellor of the King of Morocco. He performs at the Alliance Francaise of Chicago and makes his Canadian debut in Toronto. He opens the Israel Parade of New York and performs at the Poisson Rouge in New York. He sings at the World's Leaders Gala by Shmuley Boteach, in front of personalities such as Dr. Oz, the President of Rwanda, and others at Cipriani. He returns in the most celebrated French TV show, "Vendredi Tout Est Permis Avec Arthur" on TF1, where he performs "New York, New York" and a Moroccan song. He becomes a member of the Israel American Cultural Foundation. For Bastille Day, he conducts an open-air concert on 60th St and Park Ave (closed for the occasion) during an event organized by the FIAF, in front of 2,000 people.

 

He is the Founder and Artistic Director of the inaugural American Sephardi Music Festival in New York.

He performed for the Princess of Morocco, Lalla Joumala, at the Feast of the Throne in Washington, D.C., at the Organization of American States. 

In Paris, he performs two concerts at the Théâtre de la Comédie-Française, one gala at Espace Rachi in benefit of Pharmadom, and one concert at the synagogue of Thann in Alsace.

He plays the part of Barabas from The Jew of Malta by Christopher Marlowe in New York.

He plays the role of King Lear in the Yiddish adaptation of King Lear by Jacob Gordin, which he adapted and directed at the Orensanz Foundation. He plays the King of Persia in Queen Esther's Dilemma, a play by Samuel Bernstein that he directs and produces.

 

In April, he plays the title role of Cyrano de Bergerac in New York. He is the first French actor to play this part in English in the United States.

 

He played the title role of NAPOLEON in a World Premiere stage adaptation of NAPOLEON by Stanley Kubrick. He also did the adaptation.

He is the guest of honor at the NASDAQ in recognition of his performance in Cyrano.

He films in Tucson (Arizona), playing Cono from Linda Chorney's feature film WHEN I SING.​

For the 2018/2019 season in New York, he plays Romeo (Romeo and Juliet) in his Jewish adaptation (an Ashkenazi and a Sephardic family), Nabucco (Opera Nabucco de Verdi), and Figaro (Nozze di Figaro). He adapts, directs, and produces these three productions.

 

He plays Otto Frank (Anne Frank, a Musical) in New York, which he directs and produces. He also co-wrote, co-directed, and produced LOST IN THE DISCO with Lisa Azuelos in New York at the Orensanz Foundation.

He debuted in Casablanca at the Studio des Arts alongside Ferdaous and Coco Diam's.

 

He gives a concert at the Russian Culture House in London and serves as the President of the Jury for the Stars of the Albion Festival, where he also emcees the Gala.

He sings the Saudi Arabian anthem at the Museum of Jewish Heritage in New York, in friendship with the Saudi people. The video goes viral and makes the headlines of all the Arab media in the Middle East and on CNN.

 

2020

He receives the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award.

 

He sang during Paris Fashion Week at the Louvre Museum during the Oriental Fashion Show.

He received the Award for Diversity from UNESCO, where he sang that same evening.

He is the producer of the 23rd edition of the NY Sephardi Jewish Film Festival, where he honors the fashion designer Elie Tahari and film director Elie Chouraqui.

In honor of Elie Tahari, he performs alongside singer Meshi Kleinstein during the Award ceremony.

He gave a concert during the Défilé de l'Espoir in Montreal at the Musée des Beaux-Arts.

He meets the famous Moroccan composer, Sidi Abdellah Aissami, who writes an anthem in his honor.

He is featured on the cover of the book "Jewish Music in Morocco" (Marsam Edition), alongside some of the greatest Moroccan artists. This book dedicates a complete chapter to David Serero.

2021

He is nominated in the New York Shakespeare Awards for Best Shakespeare adaptations. 

 

In 2021, he won four BroadwayWorld Awards for Best Performer of the Decade, Best Producer of a Musical of the Decade, Best Producer of a Play of the Decade, and Best Opera Singer of the Year.

 

The Mayor of New York, Bill de Blasio, awarded him the Certificate of Recognition for his contribution to the City's dynamic cultural landscape, enrichment of the vibrant performing arts sector, and uplifting and inspiring diverse New Yorkers.

He won the Best Arranger & Producer Award at the Palm Beach International Music Award for the song "Thriller" from his musical "Scarface, The Al Capone Musical."

 


2022

In April 2022, David Serero directed and produced The United States of Elie Tahari, a documentary dedicated to the renowned fashion designer. The film premiered at Lincoln Center in New York.


In May, he adapted, directed, produced, and played the lead role (Moses) in the English-language version of the French musical Les Dix Commandements (The Ten Commandments, The Musical) in New York. This Off-Broadway adaptation, praised notably by Laurie Cumbo, New York City’s Commissioner of Cultural Affairs, marked the American premiere of the show created by Elie Chouraqui and Pascal Obispo. Serero worked closely with the original creators to co-write the English dialogues while respecting the artistic vision of the piece.


Also in May, the production received four nominations at the 2022 BroadwayWorld Off-Broadway Awards: Best Direction of a Musical, Best Actor in a Musical (for Serero’s role as Moses), Best Musical Production, and Best New Musical.
In the fall, during the European Heritage Days, he performed in his hometown of Chelles (Seine-et-Marne, France) in an exceptional concert featuring opera arias, musical theater, and world music. At the end of the performance, the mayor awarded him the City's Medal and named him an Honorary Citizen of Chelles.


In November, he founded and launched the Royal Opera of Morocco, the country’s first national opera company, which he directs as founder and artistic director. On November 30, he organized the inaugural gala at the Studio des Arts Vivants in Casablanca, performing alongside renowned soloists such as Hila Fahima, Victor Dahhani, and Ahlima Mhamdi. The project aims to train young Moroccan opera singers and promote opera in Morocco, including adaptations of classic works into Darija (Moroccan Arabic).


That same year, he was named one of the winners of the Business Elite 40 Under 40, a first for an opera artist, and received the award at a gala at the St. Regis Hotel in New York.


In December, he announced the release of his new documentary The Film-Make-Her, dedicated to French filmmaker Lisa Azuelos (LOL, Dalida). Created in collaboration with Azuelos herself, the film features testimonies from notable French cinema figures, including Sophie Marceau, François Cluzet, and Michèle Laroque.

 

At the same time, he continued a concert tour through Latin America, performing at the Beethoven Foundation in Buenos Aires, Rio de Janeiro, and Bogotá.


Finally, in November, he appeared on Morocco’s national channel 2MTV to present his cultural initiative around the Royal Opera of Morocco.

 

2023


In January 2023, David Serero launched the second edition of his Napoleon Festival. This celebration combined music, theater, and historical tributes, during which he presented an honorary award to singer Serge Lama.


That same month, he was inducted into the Moroccan History Wall of Fame, alongside notable figures such as French Montana and Saad Lamjarred. This wall honors individuals who have significantly contributed to Morocco’s cultural heritage.
On March 23, he performed a recital at the Great Synagogue Templo Libertad in Buenos Aires, titled A Journey Through Jewish Music from Its Origins to Today.


In April, his documentary The Film-Make-Her: The Lisa Azuelos Story received two prestigious awards: Best Documentary Award at the Los Angeles Cinematographic Awards and Best Feature Documentary at the Red Movie Awards.


On April 5, The United States of Fashion Designer Elie Tahari was screened at the Miami Film Festival in the presence of Elie Tahari and David Serero. The film’s tour continued with a French premiere at the Publicis Cinema on the Champs-Élysées (July) during Paris Haute Couture, followed by a screening in New York on October 3 as part of the Cultured Focus Magazine Awards, where Serero was honored with the Excellence in the Arts Award for his body of work.


In May, he appeared on Médi1TV, a central Pan-African channel, for an interview broadcast across North Africa. In France, TV5 Monde featured a report on the revival of "Anne Frank, a Musical" Off-Broadway, in which Serero played Otto Frank.


On May 31, he appeared in the feature film L’Île rouge by Robin Campillo.

 

On October 11, he returned to the stage with Anne Frank, The Musical at the Actors Temple Theatre in New York.
In September, he was appointed to the jury of the London Fashion Film Festival.

 

That same month, the City of New York awarded him a Certificate of Recognition for his cultural contributions, honoring a career marked by the creation of dozens of productions, festivals, and artistic collaborations. This official acknowledgment from the Mayor of New York celebrates the journey of an immigrant artist who arrived at the age of 16, full of dreams, and became a key figure in the city’s cultural landscape.

 

2024

In April 2024, David Serero received the International Best Feature Documentary award at the Garden State Film Festival for The Film-Make-Her: The Lisa Azuelos Story, a recognition of the documentary’s impact and the director’s cinematic journey.


He was invited to multiple French television programs to discuss his new film, Rocancourt, Le Film, including appearances on France 3's 1 PM news and BFMTV, where he discussed the film’s creative process.

 

On May 17, Rocancourt, Le Film had its French premiere at the Artplexe Cinema in Marseille. Two days later, on May 19, it was screened at the Marché du Film during the Cannes Film Festival, receiving a standing ovation.

 

In June, Los Angeles Magazine featured him on its cover, with an in-depth article on his career and current projects, including Rocancourt, Le Fil,m and his Off-Broadway productions.

In July, he premiered The Trial of Adolf Eichmann, a play retracing the historical trial of the Nazi criminal in 1961 Jerusalem. Serero wrote, directed, and starred as prosecutor Gideon Hausner. The world premiere took place Off-Broadway at the Center for Jewish History in New York and was praised for its emotional and historical intensity.

On August 29, Rocancourt, Le Film held its U.S. premiere at AMC Century City in Los Angeles, followed by a Q&A session with Serero. The film was then released theatrically across the United States, following successful runs in France, Belgium, and Switzerland.


In September, French Quarter Magazine named Serero one of the 26 Personalities of the Year, highlighting his artistic and cultural influence between France and the United States.


In December, he presented "The One" (I, Muhammad Ali), a one-man show about the life of Muhammad Ali. Serero wrote, produced, and directed the play, performed by athlete-turned-actor Zack Bazile. It was staged Off-Broadway. On December 20, Khaliah and Miya Ali, daughters of Muhammad Ali, attended the performance, generating strong cultural and media attention. A film adaptation, directed by Serero, is scheduled for 2026.


Throughout 2024, Serero was invited to perform The Star-Spangled Banner at significant events, including the Tikva charity gala in New York and a Boxing Insider gala at Sony Hall (Times Square), broadcast live on DAZN.

 

By year-end, his theatrical achievements earned him three BroadwayWorld Off-Broadway Award nominations, reaffirming his recognition in New York’s musical theater scene as a director, actor, and producer.
Finally, he graced the cover of The Hollywood Magazine, which dedicated a feature article to Rocancourt, Le Film and his growing list of creative ventures.

 

2025


On January 24, 2025, during Paris Fashion Week, David Serero premiered his documentary, "Welcome to My Roots," chronicling the emotional return of iconic jacket designer Jeff Hamilton to his Moroccan roots.


In March, Rocancourt, Le Film continued its award-winning journey, winning Best International Feature Documentary at the Hollywood Storytellers Film Festival in Los Angeles. That same month, it was officially selected for competition at the 2025 Beverly Hills Film Festival.


On May 18, Serero unveiled La Vis Comica, a new documentary about famed French actor Christian Clavier, at the Cannes Film Festival. The world premiere, held at the Palais des Festivals, was attended by prominent figures like Jean Reno and Didier Bourdon.


On May 19, also at Cannes, Serero presented a second film at the Palais des Festivals: Richard Orlinski: The Art Documentary, spotlighting the world’s best-selling contemporary French sculptor.

In addition to singing and acting roles, Mr. Serero is quite active in concerts, performing in over 80 concerts per year worldwide.

David Serero has received the "Excellent distinction” from the Paris Competition Professional Union of Masters of French Singing (UPMCF) at the Superior level and was a finalist in the International Competition of Operetta & Musical Theater of Marseille in 2010. He was a finalist in the Duke Ellington Jazz Vocal Competition in New York.

In 2009, he founded his own production company, David Serero Productions, which produces concerts, operas, plays, musicals, and shows worldwide. He also has his own Record Label, where he arranges and produces several records from various genres.

David Serero was the founder and Artistic Director of the Opéra du Ranelagh (Opera house in Paris) at the Théâtre du Ranelagh in Paris from 2010 to 2011. He was also the Artistic Director and Producer of the Opera and Broadway Festival from the Group Lucien Barrière of Deauville. 

In addition to his native French tongue, David Serero speaks fluent English, Italian, Russian, and Hebrew. He sings in Italian, French, English, Russian, Spanish, German, Hebrew, Czech, Armenian, Yiddish, and Ladino.

Establishing himself as a "People's Artist," David Serero organizes and participates in several concerts and galas to raise funds for Humanitarian organizations worldwide, such as UNICEF. Like his mentors, David is not content to use music solely to entertain people, although he is a dynamic performer. He uses music to unite people, bridge the racial gap, and heal the human heart. David is also an active defender of Human Rights.

David Serero strongly supports the Hadassah hospitals in Jerusalem by performing concerts to raise funds for this cause. He was named President of the Young Hadassah France in 2011.

David Serero is the founder of Forbidden Talents (www.forbiddentalents.com), which promotes the work of Talents who were forbidden by the Nazi regime through a series of concerts and events. Among them are Weill, Zemlinsky, Ullmann,...etc, and Bohuslav Martinu for whom Mr. Serero gave the tribute concert for the 50th death anniversary of the Czech composer at the Centre Tchèque in Paris with the support of the Martinu Foundation Prague.

Mr. Serero is regularly featured in documentaries and interviews from various Media worldwide, promoting opera and Music to the largest audience. 

David studied Jazz Piano at the Bill Evans Piano Academy in 1999. He graduated from the Rimsky-Korsakov Conservatory in St. Petersburg as an Opera Soloist with the "Honor" mention, as well as from the Dramatic Theater department in 2004. David graduated as an actor from HB Studio in New York City in 2003. He has studied voice with Anna Maria Bondi, Jorge Chaminé, and Christian Jean (in memoriam). He has also studied with vocal coaches such as Janine Reiss (Vocal Coach of the legendary Maria Callas) and Damien Lehman.
