The cast album of THE ONE: The Life of Legendary Boxer Muhammad Ali, written and directed by David Serero, is now officially released across all major music platforms. The album captures the emotional and theatrical power of the critically acclaimed one-man show that premiered Off-Broadway in December 2024, starring Zack Bazile as Muhammad Ali.
THE ONE is an electrifying theatrical experience that traces the extraordinary life of one of the 20th century's most influential figures. Through Serero’s signature blend of intimate storytelling, cinematic pacing, and bold stagecraft, the play explores Ali’s transformation from Cassius Clay of Louisville to a global cultural icon, his boxing triumphs, political defiance, spiritual awakening, and legacy as a symbol of resilience and conviction.
David Serero developed the work after extensive research and a lifelong fascination with Ali’s philosophy. “Ali was more than a champion,” Serero explains. “He was a thinker, a revolutionary, and a man who believed in purpose above fame. This play honors the strength of his conviction and the beauty of his soul.”
The Off-Broadway run of THE ONE sold out and was praised by audiences, critics, and members of the boxing community for its emotional depth and authenticity. David Serero was recently nominated for Best New Play and Best Director at the BroadwayWorld Awards (Off-Broadway).
Ali Family Reaction:
During the December 2024 run, Khaliah Ali and Miya Ali, daughters of Muhammad Ali, attended the performance and joined Serero on stage afterward.
Khaliah Ali: “I was so profoundly touched by ‘1942–Forever.’ As his child, seeing his photo with those dates was always painful for me. What you created was beautiful—the sentiment, the intention, the integrity behind your writing. No effort goes unappreciated. My father never took any honor for granted. Thank you.”
Miya Ali: “Seeing ‘1942–Forever’ was very touching. After our father passed, all we saw was 1942–2016, and it was fierce. It was comforting to see the ‘Forever’ part. He lives forever, and we appreciate your kindness. Great performance.”
Film Adaptation Coming in 2026
Following the stage production, David Serero completed filming the feature adaptation of THE ONE, now slated for release in Fall 2026.
