David Serero presents Muhammad Ali's The One for the first time Off-Broadway
The solo play will star a former track and field champion as the legendary boxer.
Muhammad Ali will re-enter the theatrical arena later this month as the star of David Serero’s new play The One.
Running at Off-Broadway's AMT Theater December 14-20, the solo play will star Zack Bazile, a former track and field champion turned artist. Once named a Big 10 Athlete of the Year, Bazile transitioned into the arts in 2021. This production will mark his Off-Broadway debut.

Directed and produced by Serero, The One explores the iconic boxer's life, struggles, and triumphs, tracing his journey from Cassius Clay to becoming a global symbol of resilience, activism, and the champion of champions. Following its stage debut, the play will transition to the screen with a film adaptation slated for release in 2026, also directed and produced by Serero.
The One isn't the only theatrical project turning to Ali for inspiration these days. A biomusical, unconnected to this project, is also in the works, though its planned 2025 Chicago world premiere was recently postponed.
